The Commission would like to hear your views on the ideas expressed in our June 2010 First Report.

You may provide your comments in one of two ways.

  1. If your comments are brief (less than 500 words), you may use the online comment form in the Have your Say portion of our website. Please indicate: “Feedback on the First Report” in the subject line.
  2. If your comments are more extensive, you may provide a fuller written submission. Instructions on how to submit a fuller written feedback documents.

Readers are welcome to provide feedback on any areas that would advance the Commission’s work to promote sustainable child welfare for Ontario. Here are some of the areas where we would particularly like to hear your views.

  1. Understanding where we are today (Chapters Two and Four)
    • Is this the picture of the child welfare sector that you work in, or with?
    • Are there pieces of the picture that you feel are missing or that could be drawn better?
    • Have we adequately captured the strengths of today’s system?
    • Have we captured the challenges inherent in today’s system?
  2. Our vision for the future (Chapter Three)
    • Do you have comments on the role of CAS, and its place in a more integrated system of services for children?
    • What is the vision for services to meet the needs of Aboriginal children and communities?
    • What do you see as the biggest challenges that need to be addressed as part of the change process of getting from where we are today to this future vision?
  3. The four-tiered strategy for sustainable child welfare (Chapter Five)
    The Commission has a four-tiered strategy, or action plan, for achieving more sustainable child welfare services in Ontario.

    1. Reconfigure the organization of CAS structures and service delivery.
    2. Change the approach to funding child welfare.
    3. Implement a new approach to accountability and system management.
    4. Strengthen and improve service delivery.

In the months to come, we will be undertaking more targeted engagement and dialogue relating to the funding and accountability tiers of our strategy. At this time, we are particularly interested in feedback on Reconfiguration and on Strengthening and Improving Service Delivery.
